About Us
Who are we?
We are proud to be a Church of England Primary school in the Diocese of Exeter and in Torbay Council. We are also proud to serve our local community on the western edge of Torbay as well as the Christian community of Paignton. Our Christian ethos and distinctiveness is central to all we do.
On admissions, we accept 30 children in each age group and we are a seven- class school. Every age group has one class. Of the 30 children, at least 20 are community places and up to 10 denominational (church linked) places.
We are a very popular school and have at least 210 children at any one time.
We opened on our present, new site in 2001/02. Previously we were based around a Victorian Schoolhouse and other temporary accommodation, which although very significant historically, had long outgrown its usefulness and ability to support a modern curriculum as well as increased demand for places.
We have grasped many opportunities on this site – and these continue to develop. Already our ICT infrastructure has been replaced and upgraded
And we have gained recognition for the Creative Arts, gaining Artsmark Silver and Gold, the ICT kitemark, as well as Active Sport and FA Charter Mark.
Staff development is very important to us, as a well- trained and motivated staff who view themselves as continuous learners, are vital if we are to give the children the very best learning opportunities we can. We are constantly looking to develop and improve our teaching skills and learning opportunities. We have held ‘Investors in People’ since 1997 and in 2004 gained the National Training Award for our developments in ICT.
We are also developing our outside environment. We have Willow trails leading to an environmental area and more recently have developed an Outdoor Play area, primarily for early learners!
Our Mission Statement
We are challenged to:
- See God in everyone
- Experience the Christian way of life together
- Be the best learners we can be
Aims
From our mission statement, we have determined the following aims:
- To provide a lively and stimulating environment in which exemplary teaching and learning can take place, within the total resources available.
- To create a happy, secure, orderly and caring environment in which each child can develop as an individual and as a team member.
- To enable every child to reach their full potential in the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for an enriched, fulfilled life.
- To develop in each child a sense of curiosity which will lead to a desire for further knowledge, experiences and understanding.
- To help each child to become a happy, well adjusted and tolerant member of our scholl community and to develop a moral and social awareness of the needs of others, through the life and example of Jesus Christ.
