Admissions

What do I do to apply for a place?

This is a Voluntary Aided Church School. The governors are their own Admissions authority and have a separate policy to Torbay LA. It comes into use if there are more applications than places available. For 2008/2009 it is as listed below.

The Admissions Policy below is shown below and is also available in printable form on the Policies & Procedures page.

Admissions Criteria for 2008/2009

1.

1.1. Collaton St. Mary Church of England Primary School serves:

This admissions policy sets out the criteria for admissions when there are more applications than places available (called the oversubscription criteria), and the process for admitting children into school.

1.2. Children are of legal school age in the term after their fifth birthday. However, with the increased provision for early years’ education, the governors have decided to implement the policy of admitting at one point of entry, i.e. at the start of the Autumn term of the academic year in which a child reaches their fifth birthday.

The offer of a place will be confirmed for the September entrants of 2007 in accordance with the published dates agreed with the LA under the Co-ordinated Admissions scheme and published in the TIPS 5 booklet.

2. The Governors aim to admit 30 children, its planned admission number of children to the Reception age group. These arrangements are reviewed every two years, as are the criteria listed below, which are used when the number of applications is greater than the number of available places. Within the LA’s Co-ordinated Admissions arrangements, equal preference will be given to first and second choice applications.

Oversubscription Criteria

Section A: Foundation Places

These places are for those children whose parents particularly want a school based on a Christian ethos for their child. A form will need to be completed by the appropriate priest, minister or pastor defining the extent of the family’s commitment to the worship and life of the church. This form must be sent to the school for consideration by the Admissions Committee. The Voluntary Aided Schools Foundation Place Application form can be obtained from the school to which you are applying for a place. This, plus the Torbay Schools general admission form, must be completed and given to the school, together with a copy of the child’s birth certificate.

Taking into account information on the Foundation Place form, the Governors will admit up to 10 children in this category accordingly to the following criteria:

2.1 Children with siblings attending the school at the proposed time of admission, already admitted under denominational procedures and continuing to comply.

2.2 Children from families living and worshipping in the United Benefice of Collaton St mary and Stoke Gabriel.

2.3 Children from families living in the Anglican parishes of Paignton area who worship at Collaton St Mary Church.

2.4 Children from families living in the Collaton parish and worshipping in any of the Paignton Anglican churches from families living in Paignton and worshipping in Paignton's Anglican churches.

2.5 Children from the Paignton area, whose families attend recognised Christian churches or are an active member of a major World faith, who are seeking a spiritual curriculum for their child.

2.6 If it is necessary to prioritise any applications falling within categories Section A, 2.1 to 2.5 'Looked After Children' will be given priority over others in the category.

Section B: Community Places

Children will be admitted to Community Places accordingly to the following criteria, which are in priority order.  Up to 20 places will be allocated in this section.  A Torbay Admissions form must be completed and returned to school or the LA.

2.8.  Children who have older siblings attending the school on the date of the applicant’s possible   admission.  Priority will be given to siblings who, at the date of commencement, will be living in   Collaton Parish or where ease of access indicates that Collaton should be the appropriate place for the   sibling concerned.

2.9.1 Children who have attended Collaton Playgroup and Kings and Queens Nursery.

2.9.2 Those living nearest to the school, measured by the shortest walking distance.
