Breakfast Club

Medical Services

All children are interviewed by the school nurse during their first year at school and at least once again during their Primary school life.

The nurse also visits at regular intervals for eye testing and general hygiene.

Children with potential hearing loss are tested.

Medical Suport

We have a school nurse, Lynette Halling, who works from Midvale Road Clinic.

She holds a drop in clinic once a month during term time, at the school. To make an appointment or to contact her at any time, please ring
Tel: 01803696775

School Dentist

The school dentist checks all children's teeth. Parents are informed in advance of dental inspections and are invited to attend the first held in school. If treatment is required, you may choose between having that offered by the school dentist or with your own dentist.

Illness and absence

If your child is absent from school for short periods, on their return to school please provide a note explaining the reason for their absence. Failure to do this will mean that it will be entered as an unauthorised absence.

It is helpful if children with severe colds and stomach upsets are not sent to school. We have no propere facilities or staff to look after them.

Please inform the school if your child has an infectious disease such as impetigo or chicken pox.

If your child is ill at school we will make arrangements for him/her to be taken home. Plaease make sure we have an up to date emergency telephone number or address where you can be contacted, or the name and address of someone who will be temporarily able to look after your child.

Please inform the school of any change to the emergency information.

If you wish to collect your child during school time to visit a doctor or dentist, please come to the Reception desk so that an official signing out can be undertaken.

Medicines and Health

We have been advised to exhibit great caution over the administration of medicines in school. The dangers of children having medicines and tablets in school are clearly obvious.

The two sets of circumstances which we agree to administer medically prescribed medicines are:

  1. Children with chronic illness or long term complaints, eg asthma, diabetes or epilepsy.

  2. Children recovering from a short term illnessbut are receiving a course of antibiotics, etc. prescribed by a doctor.

In these cases teachers and MTA's can give medicines prescribed by a doctor providing the following are strictly adhered observed.

  1. An indemnity/consent form has previously been completed (available from the school office or download off the website)

  2. Where the timing is vital - a doctor's note note should be provided to the effect that it is necessary for a child to receivemedicine during school hours.

  3. Medicines or tablets must be clearly labelled with contents, name and dosage, put in a sealed container/bag and delivered to the teacher or school office, by an adult.
